Geographically remote locations such as the Hawaiian Islands, underrepresented populations in the fields of science and technology (native Hawaiian and low income) face an even stronger disadvantage in the accessibility of meaningful and engaging learning opportunities that will promote the pursuit of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) careers among its youth. As an answer to this challenge, The Office of Naval Research (ONR), Akimeka LLC, Maui Economic Opportunity  and Maui Community College partnered in 2004 to establish the Hawaii Source Education Outreach program (also known as the Digital Bus) on the island of Maui.

Monkeypod Art and Creative Studio is a sweet and inviting process-based children’s art studio. We are located in the heart of Wailuku town on the sunny island of Maui. Our goal is to encourage and celebrate all people’s natural creativity and curiosity. Adults and keiki are free to create, explore, imagine, and play in our inviting space.

Maui Makers values individual initiative and individual style. We are radically inclusive and open to all. You don’t need any special skills (although we bet you have some) to join, just enthusiasm and a desire to actively participate in this grand experiment to reinvent your world. We make anything, from anything. We embrace the idea that is a fundamental human need and that everyone is a maker. It’s not just about the high tech stuff like 3d-printing (although we enjoy that), it’s about unleashing your individual creative to solve problems and make the world a better place. To help you do this, we strive to create a local ecosystem that provides you with the tools, space, shared knowledge and community.
